January to March

The start of the year brings warm temperatures and generally dry conditions across much of East Africa. Wildlife gathers around permanent water sources, making game viewing particularly rewarding in Kenya and northern Tanzania. Clear skies also provide excellent conditions for photography, while Uganda and Rwanda offer comfortable trekking conditions for mountain gorillas.

April to May

These months mark the long rains in Kenya and Tanzania, transforming the landscapes into vibrant shades of green. While occasional showers are expected, the parks become quieter and many lodges offer attractive seasonal rates. Photographers often appreciate the dramatic skies, rich colours and softer natural light.

June to October

This is widely regarded as the prime safari season. Cooler temperatures, dry conditions and thinning vegetation make wildlife easier to spot. Kenya’s Masai Mara and Tanzania’s Serengeti offer exceptional game viewing during these months, while Uganda and Rwanda continue to provide excellent gorilla trekking experiences with comfortable hiking conditions.

November to December

The short rains bring renewed life to the landscape without significantly affecting safari activities. Migratory birds arrive in large numbers, making this an excellent period for birdwatching, while the fresh greenery creates beautiful photographic backdrops. Visitor numbers are generally lower than during the peak season, allowing for a more relaxed safari experience.
