Day 1

DAY 1 : Arrival / Arusha

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your Africa Classic Escapes representative will be there to greet you, transfer you to your hotel and go over your travel arrangements. You will spend one night at Arusha Coffee Lodge.

The city of Arusha, with a population of around 150,000 people, sits in a pleasant, lush valley, divided by the Naura River near the base of 15,000-ft Mt. Meru.  This bustling city, the safari capital of Tanzania, is the economic center of an area with a rich agricultural economy, thanks to the rich volcanic soil.  Your first night in Africa is spent at the Arusha Coffee lodge. This cozy, boutique hotel/lodge is built within a coffee plantation just outside Arusha.

Overnight: Arusha Coffee Lodge
Meal Plan: Bed and Breakfast

Day 2&3

Day 2, 3: Lake Manyara National Park

The excitement of your safari begins as you are collected from Arusha Coffee Lodge and be transferred to the Arusha airport for your Precision Air flight from Arusha departing at 7:55 am to Manyara arriving at 8:20 am.  You will be collected at Manyara Airstrip and driven with fellow guests to &Beyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge.

En route you'll see a wealth of bird life… over 350 species are found here including Verreaux's Eagle, a variety of vultures, storks, swifts and swallows winging their way atop the spectacular cliffs overlooking the lake. Lake Manyara, at 3,150 feet in altitude, varies in salinity according to the amount of rain, and at times it is replete with flamingos, pelicans, storks and cormorants.
Your lodge is located in the heart of a mahogany forest in the southern reaches of the park. You will go on game drives in the park on your second day here.

Overnight: Lake Manyara Tree Lodge
Meal Plan: Full Board

Day 4

Day 4: Ngorongoro Conservation Area

You will be collected at &Beyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge and driven with fellow guests to Manyara Airstrip.  (approx. 3 and a half hour road transfer). You will be collected at Manyara airstrip and driven with fellow guests to &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge.  (approx. 1 and a half hour road transfer). You will explore the crater this afternoon.

Ngorongoro Crater is the largest unbroken caldera in the world. The cone is believed to have collapsed nearly two million years ago, and while the cone was standing, it could have been as tall, if not taller, than Mt. Kilimanjaro. The crater (1,800 feet deep and 102 square miles) is a microcosm of East African scenery with abundant wildlife – more than 25,000 larger animals, mostly zebra and wildebeest. This is also the best place in Tanzania to see magnificent black-maned lion and black rhino. A soda lake changes size depending on the rains that are the lifeline of this amazing land.

Colorful flamingoes and more than 100 species of birds found here and not in the Serengeti, frequent the area. Patience may also reward you with glimpses of leopard, cheetah, hyena, jackal, elephant, warthog, buffalo, impala, buffalo, hartebeest, eland and lots of other antelopes. As you descend into the crater, you may see the local Maasai as they take their cattle down the steep walls of the crater.

Overnight: Ngorongoro Crater Lodge

Meal Plan: Full Board

Day 5, 6, 7

Day 5, 6, 7: Serengeti National Park

You will be collected at Ngorongoro Crater Lodge and driven with fellow guests to Manyara Airstrip.  (approx. 1 and a half hour road transfer) for your Precision Air flight from Manyara departing at 08h35 to  Kogatende Airstrip in the Northern part of the Serengeti. You will stay for 3 nights at Sayari Tented Camp in a tent with ensuite bathroom with open air shower.

Serengeti National Park (3,646,500 acres) is the jewel in the crown of Tanzania's protected areas with over three million large mammals roaming its plains. The Serengeti has come to symbolize paradise to all, including the local Maasai, who have grazed their cattle on the vast grassy plains for generations. To the Maasai, it is Siringitu – "the place where the land goes on forever."  Today, the Serengeti National Park, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and the Maasai Mara Game Reserve across the border in Kenya, protect the greatest and most varied collection of terrestrial wildlife on earth, and one of the last great migratory systems still intact.

Interesting birds to look out for are Black-headed Gonolek, Rufous Chatterer, African Mourning Dove, Paradise Flycatcher, White-browed Coucal, African Golden Oriole, Spotted Morning Thrush, Slate-colored Boubou and the dazzling Fischer's Lovebird. This is a truly beautiful area at any time of year, and you're sure to find some kopjes (rocky outcroppings) to enjoy your sundowners while watching the panorama that unfolds before your eyes.

Your accommodation is in a semi permanent camp, moved seasonally, to be positioned for the best game viewing according to the time of year. With only twelve tents split into two separate wings, far away from any other sign of human life, you will experience Africa in a way that few are privileged to know. The camp was chosen as one of the "Special Places" in Africa by Africa Geographic.

Overnight: Sayari Tented Camp

Meal Plan: Full Board

Day 8

Say good bye to the wonderful country and promise to join us on another expedition.
