We depart by 08h30 from Cape Town and traveling on to Stellenbosch for further collections. A stunning coastal drive brings us to the Harold Porter National Botanical Garden and its exquisite coastal fynbos. After marvelling at the richness of the Cape floral kingdom we visit the small breeding colony of African Penguins at Stony Point. This afternoon we explore one of South Africa’s newest wine routes ‘Hemel-en-Aarde’ which translates to ‘Heaven and Earth’. A wine tasting at a boutique winery serves as a perfect illustration of why this region is so aptly named.

Beautiful Walker Bay stretches out in front of the narrow coastal village of Hermanus and the unique cliff path invites us to explore on foot the charms of the area. During the months of July – November the majestic sight of whales add further enchantment to our explorations. We depart late morning and experience a spectacular drive through the heart of the Cape Folded Mountains. In the pretty village of Barrydale we enjoy a late lunch (own account) before setting off along the scenic ‘Route 62’ towards Oudtshoorn, our final destination for the day.

This morning we marvel at the impressive Cango Caves, filled with weird and wonderful stalactite and
stalagmite formations. Thereafter a guided tour of an ostrich farm gives us insight into why Oudtshoorn is known as the ‘feather capital of the world’. The Outeniqua Pass affords us panoramic views of the Outeniqua Mountain range as we travel towards George and then onto our accommodation for two nights.

After a leisurely breakfast we venture to nearby Knysna to cruise the vast Knysna Lagoon and visit the Featherbed Nature Reserve.  A specialist guide shares the history and fascinating facts on the fauna and flora of the area with us.  An optional guided walk through coastal forest and fynbos into ancient sea caves is richly rewarded with a delectable lunch served under a canopy of Milkwood trees. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure to either further explore the enticing town of Knysna or return to our wonderful accommodation and soak up the relaxed atmosphere of its country setting.
